Developing a Tailored Climate Equity Framework for Climate Action
The Resilient Mystic Collaborative (RMC) is reshaping its social resilience approach by embedding environmental justice and social equity across all climate action areas, including inland flooding, coastal flooding, and heat adaptation. Currently, RMC’s membership primarily consists of municipal staff from engineering, planning, and environmental departments, lacking critical representation from community-based organizations led by trusted community leaders who serve the populations most impacted by climate change. Additionally, there are gaps in sectors vital to social resilience—such as public health, housing, and social services.
Under the leadership of the Climate Resilience Team, RMC is transitioning from a Social Resilience Working Group to a new structure that integrates both “Learning Groups” and collaborative, regional projects. These Learning Groups will allow communities in the Mystic River Watershed to share best practices, insights, and lessons learned from joint resilience projects. ACBC Consulting is supporting this transition by recruiting diverse practitioners, mapping stakeholders, and identifying synergies between RMC-led and member projects to build a robust project pipeline.
Through facilitated workshops, new members will co-create a shared social resilience vision and strengthen the coalition’s capacity. Updates from the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA), with support from RMC members like Climate Ready Boston, will reinforce this inclusive, community-centered framework, bolstering the region’s climate resilience.
